It’s Tea Time – Tuesday 30 May 2017 2-4.30pm

By | Events, Family, Village News | No Comments

A special Westbourne tea party is fast approaching and tickets are waltzing out.

This month on 30 May 2017, the Parish Hall will be filled with the sounds of times gone-by and the lovely smell of beautiful cakes and scones. In true Westbourne tradition, there will of course, be lots of tea and coffee.

Dancing will be ‘strictly’ encouraged but is not compulsory. Just come along and be waited on as you enjoy a Lyons Tea Rooms-style experience. There will be a prize for the best outfit! Vintage dress code is optional, jeans are welcome.

With cucumber sandwiches, cupcakes, relaxing music and much more, this is a May-treat for those living in the village and further afield.

You may have heard the fun discussions around the village in recent weeks, picking out favourite 40s and 50s music, There has even been the occasional song-burst, followed by happy chatter on this latest highlight to Westbourne’s social calendar.

Tickets, £5 each, are available from the Parish Hall on Monday mornings or from Angela Leggett after church services. If you are not able to get to the Monday coffee mornings and would like a ticket, please leave a message for Angela and the organising team via an email to the Parish Hall at sjbwparishoffice@gmail.com

The party will raise money for Westbourne Church (Registered charity number 1130732).

Now all sing, “Tea for two…”, now why don’t they sing about coffee? Coffee will be available at the Westbourne Tea Party, no singing necessary! See you there.

Wheels for Westbourne 1st Weekend Round-up

By | Events, Family, Greening Westbourne | No Comments

Our Wheels for Westbourne cycling campaign got under way with some great events last weekend.

Our Bike Doctor session in the Square saw a steady stream of people bring their bikes along for a free tweak to get them road-ready. More than 20 machines got some tender loving care.

The following day up to 30 people, aged four to 70-plus, took part in a led ride around the parish despite some far-from-ideal weather.

Next event: longer ride 19 March. Meet at the Square 10am.

Greening Westbourne Campaign Update

By | Events, Family, Greening Westbourne, Village News | No Comments

Wheels for Westbourne

Our Wheels for Westbourne cycling campaign gets under way with a series of FREE events in March.

These include:

11 March
Bike Doctor session in the Square. Get your bike out of the shed, dust the cobwebs off and get it ride-ready with a free safety check and adjustments. 11am–2pm.

12 March
Family ride on roads around the parish – about five miles. Meet 2.30pm in the Square.

19 March
Ride further afield, details to come. Meet in the Square at 10am (not as advertised in the village magazine).

28th March
Cycling: the way ahead for Westbourne? Talk on safety followed by discussion. 7.30pm at the White Horse. We hope this event will be a springboard for more events this summer.

Please chat to us at one of these events or drop us an email if you would like to get involved with our cycling campaign.

If you want to train as a ride leader, help out with events (maybe as a marshal) or give us a hand with organisation, do get in touch. You can help as much or as little as you like.

The March events are being held with Emsworth Community Cycling Club, My Journey Hampshire and Cycling UK.

Our goal is to run more events in the summer, and also to get some cycle stands in the centre of the village. But we will only be able to carry on if we can get an informal group of volunteers together.

Can you help?

The point of our campaign is to encourage people to use their bikes for ordinary short trips around the area, instead of driving. This would reduce traffic and pollution, improve people’s health and reduce our carbon footprint.

Our next meeting is 7 March at the White Horse at 7.30pm. Contact us at greeningwestbourne@hotmail.co.uk

Westbourne Weekend AGM – All welcome!

By | Events, Family, Village News, Westbourne Weekends | No Comments

The Westbourne Weekend team and looking for new recruits! The AGM is on Thursday 19 January at 7.45 in the Westbourne Social Club and the team are keen to welcome new faces and would also welcome back anyone who has been involved before.

The Westbourne Weekend group organises the Christmas tree and lights in the village and every June we hold either a black tie ball or the Groove (think mini Glastonbury!) along with the duck race and other family events. 2017 is a Groove year and they’re keen to involve anyone who is interested in helping out.

If anyone is interested in finding out more or wants to get involved, then please go along on Thursday or contact them via the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/westbourneweekend/

Can you help decorate Westbourne Square with knitted squares?

By | Events, Family, Village News | No Comments

If you can knit a rectangle, then we need you. The metal railings around the Christmas tree will be transformed into fluffy reds, greens, golds, silvers and white. A team of locals and friends are knitting away at home and in The White Horse on Tuesday evenings 7pm to 8.30pm with the final session on 6 December 2016. Do come along with some knitting needles and materials on these evenings. We need rectangles of approximately 10cm x 20cm. Finished items can also be handed into Steph at The White Horse before the 10 December 2016.

If you are able to knit at home, contact Polly Tassell for more details on screen-shot-2016-11-28-at-21-46-16 .

Polly has been able to repair many of the decorations from last year and with this year’s ‘crop’ and the crotchet stars, the Square in Westbourne will look even lovelier for the Christmas Tree ceremony and Carols in the Square.

Thank you to everyone who has been knitting or supplied materials including those from Westbourne organisations and the Church.
