Greening Westbourne Campaign Update

By | Events, Family, Greening Westbourne, Village News | No Comments

Wheels for Westbourne

Our Wheels for Westbourne cycling campaign gets under way with a series of FREE events in March.

These include:

11 March
Bike Doctor session in the Square. Get your bike out of the shed, dust the cobwebs off and get it ride-ready with a free safety check and adjustments. 11am–2pm.

12 March
Family ride on roads around the parish – about five miles. Meet 2.30pm in the Square.

19 March
Ride further afield, details to come. Meet in the Square at 10am (not as advertised in the village magazine).

28th March
Cycling: the way ahead for Westbourne? Talk on safety followed by discussion. 7.30pm at the White Horse. We hope this event will be a springboard for more events this summer.

Please chat to us at one of these events or drop us an email if you would like to get involved with our cycling campaign.

If you want to train as a ride leader, help out with events (maybe as a marshal) or give us a hand with organisation, do get in touch. You can help as much or as little as you like.

The March events are being held with Emsworth Community Cycling Club, My Journey Hampshire and Cycling UK.

Our goal is to run more events in the summer, and also to get some cycle stands in the centre of the village. But we will only be able to carry on if we can get an informal group of volunteers together.

Can you help?

The point of our campaign is to encourage people to use their bikes for ordinary short trips around the area, instead of driving. This would reduce traffic and pollution, improve people’s health and reduce our carbon footprint.

Our next meeting is 7 March at the White Horse at 7.30pm. Contact us at greeningwestbourne@hotmail.co.uk

Community Spring Clean Day, Sunday 9 April

By | Events, Parish Council News, Village News | No Comments

Join Westbourne Parish Council’s Community Spring Clean Day on Sunday 9 April to help collect litter around the village. It’s a great opportunity to meet local people and to contribute towards making the village a place you are even prouder to live in.

Last year’s event was a great success and the Parish Council were joined by 27 volunteers who collected 28 large bags of rubbish that had previously been littering the streets and hedgerows.

No experience is necessary – all you need to do is to meet at The Square at 2.30pm on Sunday 9 April, finishing at 4.30pm for refreshments at The Meeting Place in North Street. Litter picking tools, protective gloves, fluorescent vests and plastic sacks will be provided.

For more information, contact Clare Kennett, Clerk to the Parish Council, on 07775 654483 or at westbournepc@outlook.com.
