1st Westbourne Scouts – Beavers, Cubs and Scouts

Scouts, Cubs and Beavers – open to boys and girls!

ws1st Westbourne Scouts are one of the oldest groups in the Chichester District and we need more Scouts to participate and enjoy everything it has to offer.

The Scouting Organisation as a whole promote leadership, communication, problem solving, personal responsibility, discipline and a whole host of interpersonal skills that help those involved achieve their true potential. The benefits are recognised in numerous ways including Job applications it might just make the difference in getting a job or not, especially when the person is able to evidence their achievements.

Worldwide there are over 28 million people involved in Scouting that’s alot of opportunities it’s possible it can take you to the other side of the world or even further (read on and see)and there will always or almost always be someone from the scouting family to look out for you.

At 1st Westbourne Scouts we are no different; we look out for each other we help each other when we can, our Scout Leader, a volunteer has numerous skills to pass on and encourages all those attending to aspire and reach the best of their ability, to acquire new skills and sense of achievement in a fun and enjoyable way.

All our leaders Simon in Scouts, Glynis and Karen in Cubs, Rachel in Beavers are brilliant in coaching the children and young adults, in a way that they have fun and excitement, I can’t thank them enough for the time they freely give up.

Over the last 12 months just some of the things our Scouts have done include;

Beach BBQs, Night Hikes, Cooking (Parents be warned have you ever tasted a chocolate fritter or green pancake!), Go Karting, Fire lighting, Whittling (Amazing what you can make), Pioneering challenges (Ropes and Pole bridges etc), Waterbombs and games, Wide games, Camping, Map reading and orienteering culminating in the Junior Downsman Competition, where the scouts hike over a weekend camping out at night on sites of course and perform various challenges on route. Making Rocket Matches hmmm so where might that take you?

It brings to mind one of our 1st Westbourne Scouts that has gone on to achieve something many can only dream of, it is of course Tim Peake who is the first British Astronaut to be chosen by the European Space Agency. Hopefully on his next mission to the Space Station he is going to take one of our Necker’s up with him. If you’ve a strong enough telescope, you might just see it flapping about  outside.

Please come and join us!

As Chair I can’t thank our leaders enough for giving up their valuable time, having said that they do see the children blossom and achieve many things which is reward enough for them.

If you are interested as an adult to help in one of the sections please contact Derek Chaffer the GSL or myself Roy Briscoe.
